Our manifesto

We are committed to a Nordic public sphere that rises with renewed strength, and to far greater dialogue across Nordic borders and generations. United in confidence in our shared potential. Where young people are given a clear voice, and where vibrant encounters between people, ideas and insights inspire action and send ripples far and wide.

Nord 55° will be a rallying point for free expression, free thought, living culture and democratic values — a bulwark against autocracy, algorithms and apathy. We embrace disagreement as a strength, insist on enlightenment and create space for the exchange of views in an environment that champions pluralism and open debate.

We stand against democracy’s worst enemies: echo chambers, digital bubbles, passivity and indifference. Our antidote is opinion, resistance and courage. We want a democracy that develops through trust — a core value in the Nordic countries, and one worth defending.

History is calling on us now. As in the late nineteenth century, the Nordic countries can become a catalyst for a new modern breakthrough. If we come together across our differences and borders, we can set in motion waves of enlightenment and inspiration. With a new Nordic public sphere, we rediscover our strength, our vision and one another.
